Her advice for health and long life is based on “eating to live” and establishing lasting habits that reduce the risk of death and disease. She is a physician, entrepreneur, mother, wife, sister and teacher who resides in the Mount Airy section of Philadelphia. Dr. Shabazz hopes to harness the collective power of Philadelphia’s Black physicians at various stages of their careers. She believes that together, we can not only reduce healthcare disparities among patients, but also address disparities in the professional opportunities available to Black doctors in the Greater Philadelphia area. When physicians of color are supported, it increases our capacity to serve the community. Vice President- William King, Jr. MD, FAAP![]() Dr. King’s professional interests are in community-based pediatric practice, and parent education. His research interests have been on youth violence reduction, childhood malnutrition, and medical student outreach. He is currently the Vice President of the Medical Society of Eastern Pennsylvania, representing Philadelphia area Black Physicians. His history with National Medical Association extends back to medical school where he was a SNMA national vice president. He has had a long history of participation on WURD radio’s Physicians-On-Air whenever asked by MSEP past presidents Dr. Saudra McGruder. Dr King is a deacon at White Rock Baptist Church in West Philadelphia, where he works actively with scouting and cultivates the Children’s Garden. His wife is a professor in the School of Social Work at Widener University and they have a talented high school student son and college graduate daughter who take up the rest of his attention. Financial Secretary - Lydia Thomas-Mabine MD, FACOG![]() Dr. Thomas-Mabine is actively involved in various medical executive leadership roles. She is a Trustee of the Foundation of the Pennsylvania Medical Society advocating for scholarships for African-American students and a Trustee of Chestnut Hill –Tower Health Hospital Board. Treasurer - Kim Weems May, MD![]() Dr. Kim May is a graduate of the Temple University School of Medicine. She attended Drexel University for her undergraduate studies, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science of Chemistry. Dr. May trained at the Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia in the Department of Internal Medicine. Dr. May has been practicing medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania since 1999. She is the owner of a small private practice in Strawberry Mansion. She is also the Medical Director of an Adult LIFE program in West Philadelphia. Dr. May is committed to providing quality healthcare to those who reside in underserved communities. |
